Catalog Sales Data Files

To supplement 1001 Ways to Market Your Books and the Book Marketing Tip of the Week newsletter, John Kremer has produced the Catalog Sales Data Files.

The Catalog Sales Data Files features 1,350 catalogs, Internet bookstore sites, chain store outlets, wholesalers, distributors, and other special sales outlets. Includes catalog names, buyers, addresses, phone and fax numbers, email addresses, web site URLs, types of books carried, and other important details. $30.00. This price is so inexpensive because the data is still a work in progress.

Note that the current database you are receiving contains 1,350 catalogs and chain stores. About 1/3 have been updated and verified while another 1/3 include some updated information but have not yet been verified. The rest have not been updated in several years. We will continue to update listings during the rest of the year, but you should have enough here to begin hunting for catalogs that are appropriate for your books.

John, thanks for providing us with your specialty retailer and catalog databases. We have sold more than 3,000 copies of one of our books to customers from these two lists...none of whom had ever ordered from us before. Well worth the $60 we paid for the two lists! — Steve Deger, Sales and Marketing Manager, Fairview Press

“We have been in business for less than 7 months and Book Marketing Update has been a godsend. There are three or four substantial new leads each issue and sometimes we hit the jackpot with eight or ten new solid special sales opportunities. I have been working the special sales area of trade publishing for more than 20 years and continue to find that our subscription to Book Marketing Update is worth every penny and more.” — Allan Lang, Publishing Director, Two-Can Publishing

“We have been trying to get our books into Cabela's, a major sporting catalog, for the past two years with no response. Our first issue of your newsletter gave Cabela's contact info. We tried it one more time and Cabela's took on our sports book for inclusion in the catalog. Your newsletter paid for itself on the very first issue and is worth thousands of dollars. A very good investment for any publisher.” — James Russell, Publisher, James Russell Publishing

You will be able to download six different formats (your choice of one or all) as well as an info sheet to let you know what is contained in the various data files (Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, comma-delimited ASCII, tab-delimited ASCII, dBase, and rich text format).
