Everyone's an Expert: Help a Reporter
If you'd like to be notified of reporter and editor requests for help or for
interviewees, you might want to join Peter Shankman's Help a Reporter
email list. You can do that at http://www.helpareporter.com.
Peter offers this email alert service for free. All that he asks is the
This is really the only thing I ask: By joining this list, just
promise me and yourself that you'll ask yourself before you
send a response: Is this response really on target? Is this
response really going to help the journalist, or is this just a
BS way for me to get my client in front of the reporter? If
you have to think for more than three seconds, chances are,
you shouldn't send the response.
What that means is that you only respond directly to those media
requests that really, really, really fit you and your expertise.

The following is a note from a newsletter reader:
“I have been a member of your newsletter for awhile now. I have also
read your book...1001 Ways To Market Your Book. I have to say Thank
You because I have taken your advice so many times and have seen a
difference. The first bit of advice was: Don't be married to your title.
“My book was published in 2005 and nothing. I tried (I thought)
everything and nothing was working. I then read your book and the first
change I made was the title and the cover page. I then began adding
to my book. FREE is a HUGE word for everyone, me included. I then
reworked my website (http://www.marybethtraut.com). I just got my
website up and running. I am still working out the bugs, but I have seen
a 100% + increase in traffic.
“I continue to read and would love to someday attend one of your
conferences, but in the meantime I will continue to read and implement
everything you have to say. It can't work, if I am not willing to try.”
